Essential Items to Bring to Your Studio Newborn Session

Capturing the precious moments of your newborn's early days is a cherished experience. As a newborn photographer, I understand the importance of creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for both the baby and the entire family during a studio session. To ensure a smooth and successful photoshoot, here's a guide on what to bring to your studio newborn session.

Baby Essentials:

  • Diapers and Wipes: Be prepared with an ample supply of diapers and wipes to keep your baby clean and comfortable throughout the session.

Feeding Supplies:

  • Bottles and Formula/Breast Milk: Whether you're breastfeeding or using formula, bring enough to cover feeding needs during the session. A well-fed and content baby is more likely to cooperate during the shoot.

  • Burp Cloths: Accidents happen, and having a few burp cloths on hand will help keep both baby and props clean.

Comfort Items:

  • Pacifier: A pacifier can be a helpful tool for soothing the baby between poses and ensuring they stay calm and relaxed.

Parent/Sibling Essentials:

  • Snacks and Water: It's important for parents to stay hydrated and nourished. Newborn sessions can take several hours depending upon the baby. Pack some snacks and a water bottle to keep your energy up.

  • Comfortable Clothing: Opt for comfortable and coordinated outfits for family photos. Neutral colors work best and stand the test of time. I also recommend dressing as the studio will be very warm to keep the baby relaxed and comfortable when posing.

Props and Personal Touches:

  • Special Items/props: Bring any sentimental items you'd like to incorporate into the photos, such as a cherished stuffed animal, a family heirloom, or a handmade blanket. This is not a requirement, however, it can add a nice personal touch.

Patience and Flexibility:

  • Time and Patience: Newborn sessions can take time, so be patient and understanding. Babies can be unpredictable, and breaks may be needed for feeding, changing, or soothing.

  • Flexibility: Be open to the photographer's suggestions and ideas. They have experience working with newborns and know how to capture those adorable moments.

Preparing for a studio newborn session involves more than just showing up with your baby. By bringing these essential items, you'll help create a comfortable and enjoyable environment, ensuring that your newborn's first photo shoot is a memorable and heartwarming experience for everyone involved.
