A Mountain, a Meadow, and Myles the Puppy: A Magical Family Session in Asheville

There are sessions that feel like work (let’s be honest), and then there are sessions that feel like magic. This one? Pure magic—with a side of puppy kisses.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a sweet family visiting Asheville on vacation. Think: mountain air, golden light, and two high-energy brothers who reminded me why photographing kids is always an adventure. These boys—ages 9 and 11—came ready to run, laugh, and show off their best ninja moves (thank you, gentlemen, for the entertainment and cardio). And tagging along for the fun? Their ridiculously adorable puppy, Myles, who basically tried to steal the show at every turn—and nearly succeeded.

We met in a gorgeous field with the mountains casually flexing their beauty in the background (because Asheville doesn't do subtle, and honestly, we love her for it). The evening light draped everything in that glowy, dreamy haze that photographers like me live for. It was like nature had dimmed the lights just right, cued the soundtrack, and said, “You’re welcome.”

The family dynamic was the best part. You could feel how close they are—inside jokes flying, gentle teasing, and those little in-between moments of connection that make a family session really special. Whether the boys were chasing each other through the tall grass or pausing to give Myles a snuggle (that was tolerated temporarily), every moment was genuine and joy-filled.

And can we talk about style for a second? Coordinated without being matchy-matchy (a true art form), with everyone looking effortlessly pulled together.

By the end of the session, we were all a sweaty

, grass-stained, and completely in love with this spot—and each other (okay, maybe just professionally on my end, but still). It’s sessions like this that remind me why I love what I do.
