When I first had my daughter, everyone told me to treasure each moment because it would fly by. Initially, I didn't believe them. Those first months with my new baby felt like an eternity. But now? Now I totally get it! Every moment with our family is so incredibly special and is worth remembering.
So if you are wondering when it's the best time to book a family session, it's now. Too often I hear of families delaying sessions for the "perfect moment." Saying things like, when I loose 10 pounds, or when the weather is nicer, or when my toddler stops having tantrums. Your life right now is beautiful. Truly beautiful. What should we expect during a family photography session?
Expect movement, laughing, playing, snuggling, and a lot less “sit still and smile” than you might imagine. I’ll guide you throughout the session, but my goal is to create photographs that feel like your family rather than forcing everyone into stiff poses.
What if my kids won’t sit still for family photos?
Perfect — they don’t need to! I spent about a decade as an elementary school teacher before becoming a photographer, so I am very comfortable working with kids and all the energy, shyness, silliness, and unpredictability they bring. Some of my favorite family photographs happen when children are simply allowed to be themselves.
Where do you photograph family sessions in Asheville?
I photograph families throughout Asheville, Black Mountain, and the surrounding Western North Carolina area. Depending on your family and the season, we might choose mountain views, Lake Tomahawk, open fields, wooded trails, the Biltmore area, your own home, or another location that is meaningful to you.
What happens if it rains on the day of our session?
If the forecast is calling for significant rain or unsafe weather, we can reschedule. Sometimes a little cloud cover or drizzle can still create beautiful photographs, so I’ll keep an eye on the forecast and help you decide what makes the most sense.
Can grandparents or extended family members join our session?
Absolutely. I offer an Extended Family Session so we have enough time to photograph the full group along with individual families, grandparents and grandchildren, couples, siblings, and other important combinations.
Can we book family photos while visiting Asheville on vacation?
Yes! I photograph many families who are visiting Asheville and Western North Carolina. A family session can be such a meaningful way to document a vacation, anniversary, reunion, or simply a season when everyone is finally together.
