Newborn Photos Without the Stress: What’s Included in My Asheville Newborn Sessions

Bringing home a new baby is beautiful, emotional, exhausting, and more than a little bit blurry.

Those first few weeks can feel like a strange combination of wanting time to slow down while also wondering how it is somehow already 3:00 p.m. and you’re still wearing the same pajamas from yesterday.

So when it comes to newborn photos, the last thing I want you worrying about is what everyone should wear, what you need to pack, whether your baby will cooperate, or what in the world you’re supposed to do once you’re standing in front of my camera.

My goal is to make your newborn session feel like one of the easiest things you do during those early postpartum weeks.

Because you already have enough to think about.

You Don’t Have to Plan Every Little Detail

One of the biggest things I hear from new parents is that simply getting out of the house with a newborn can feel like an accomplishment.

I get it.

There are diapers, bottles, extra clothes, burp cloths, snacks, pacifiers, and approximately 47 other things you suddenly feel like you need every time you leave home.

That’s why I keep my Asheville-area newborn studio stocked with so many of the things you may need during your session.

I provide a variety of newborn outfits, wraps, blankets, bonnets, tiebacks, and simple, timeless props so you don’t have to shop for anything special before you arrive.

I also have clothing options available for moms and siblings, which can take a huge amount of stress out of figuring out what everyone should wear.

And because real life with a newborn comes with real-life needs, I also keep diapers, wipes, a bottle warmer, coffee, and snacks on hand.

Basically, I want you to feel like you can walk in, exhale, and let me take it from there.

Hair and Makeup Can Be One Less Thing on Your List

If getting yourself camera-ready feels like just one more thing you don’t have the energy to manage, I can also connect you with professional hair and makeup artists.

They can meet you right here at my studio, or in some cases come to your home before your session.

There is something incredibly nice about having someone else take care of you for a little while, especially during a season when so much of your attention is focused on your baby.

You deserve to feel beautiful in these photos too.

You Don’t Have to Know How to Pose

This is another thing I never want parents to worry about.

You do not need to know what to do with your hands.

You do not need to practice poses beforehand.

You do not need to figure out how to hold the baby in a way that looks “photogenic.”

That’s my job.

During your newborn session, I’ll guide you through everything. I’ll safely wrap and pose your baby, help position siblings, pose your family, adjust clothing, fix stray hairs, and give you gentle direction throughout the entire session.

My studio newborn sessions have a lifestyle feel, so while I will guide you, I never want your photos to feel stiff or overly posed.

We’ll focus on the things that matter most: the way your baby fits against your chest, those impossibly tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the way an older sibling leans in for a kiss, and all of those quiet little connections that tell the story of your family right now.

Your Baby Does Not Have to “Cooperate”

I really wish every new parent knew this before walking into a newborn session.

Your baby cannot ruin the photos.

They do not have to sleep the entire time.

They do not have to stay perfectly still.

They do not have to follow some imaginary newborn-session schedule.

My sessions are baby-led, which means we follow your baby’s cues.

If they need to eat, we stop and feed them.

If they need a diaper change, we change them.

If they need to be held, rocked, soothed, or snuggled, that’s exactly what we do.

And if your baby is wide awake and staring straight into the camera? Honestly, those images can be some of my favorites.

There is no rush and no expectation that your newborn needs to perform for the camera.

They just get to be a baby.

Siblings Don’t Have to Be Perfect Either

If you’re bringing an older sibling to your newborn session, please don’t spend the drive over begging them to “be good for the pictures.”

Especially if they’re toddlers.

I have spent years working with children, both as a former teacher and as a photographer, and I promise I do not expect your two-year-old to suddenly become a calm, perfectly posed little angel simply because there is a camera nearby.

We’ll work with their personality.

We may play games, make silly noises, take breaks, snuggle, or let them wander away and come back when they’re ready.

My goal is not perfection.

My goal is connection.

Family Photos Are Part of the Story

One of the things that is really important to me is including parents and siblings in newborn sessions.

I know that sometimes new moms especially feel hesitant to be photographed so soon after giving birth.

Your body feels different. You’re tired. You may not quite feel like yourself yet.

But years from now, your child is not going to look at those photographs and notice the things you were worried about.

They’re going to see the way you held them.

They’re going to see how tiny they once looked in your arms.

They’re going to see how completely loved they were from the very beginning.

And you’re going to get to see yourself there too.

Not just as the person who was taking all the photos.

But as part of the story.

You Just Have to Show Up

When I designed my newborn photography experience, I wanted it to feel like the opposite of stressful.

You shouldn’t have to spend hours shopping for baby outfits.

You shouldn’t have to scour Pinterest for poses.

You shouldn’t have to panic because your newborn didn’t sleep the night before or your toddler is having a very toddler kind of morning.

You just have to show up with your baby.

I’ll take care of the rest.
