One of the questions I hear from parents is, "Will we be in the photos too?"

My answer is always the same: Absolutely.

In fact, family portraits are included with every newborn session I offer. While those tiny details—sleepy yawns, wispy hair, curled-up fingers, and tiny toes—are incredibly important to capture, they only tell part of the story. The most meaningful images are often the ones that show where your baby belongs: safely tucked into your arms, wrapped up in the love of the people who have been waiting for them.

Your Baby Will Want to See You, Too

Years from now, your child won't just want to see what they looked like as a newborn. They'll want to see you.

They'll notice how impossibly small they were in your arms. They'll see the way you looked at them when they were only days old. They'll notice the way Dad held them so carefully, or how big their older sibling's smile was the first time they snuggled together.

Those are the photographs that become family treasures.

These Are Your First Days Together

The newborn stage is beautifully fleeting.

One day your baby fits perfectly against your chest, and before you know it they're taking their first steps, heading off to preschool, and asking for the car keys. Those first few weeks are filled with changes that happen almost overnight.

Your newborn session isn't just about documenting your baby's size—it's about remembering what it felt like to become this version of your family.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, your family has changed forever. I want to preserve that chapter, not just the baby.

You Don't Need to Feel "Photo Ready"

I know what many new parents are thinking.

"I'm exhausted."

"I haven't slept in days."

"I'm not feeling like myself yet."

As a mom, I completely understand those feelings. The postpartum season is beautiful, emotional, and often overwhelming.

But I also know something else.

Years from now, you won't be wishing you had waited until you felt more rested or had lost the baby weight. You'll be grateful you stepped in front of the camera.

Your baby won't notice tired eyes or postpartum hair. They'll simply see the people who loved them from the very beginning.

A Relaxed, Baby-Led Experience

Including family photos doesn't mean the session becomes rushed or stressful.

My newborn sessions are completely baby-led, with plenty of time for feeding breaks, diaper changes, cuddles, and outfit changes. There's no pressure to hurry through family portraits before focusing on baby. Instead, we move at your baby's pace, creating a calm and relaxed experience from beginning to end.

In my natural light studio in Black Mountain, we'll create a combination of timeless family portraits, sweet sibling interactions, and beautiful individual images of your newest little love. The result is a gallery that tells the complete story of this season of your life.

More Than Newborn Photos

When you look back at your gallery years from now, I don't want you to remember only how tiny your baby was.

I want you to remember the way they fit perfectly in your arms.

The way your partner looked at your growing family.

The pride on an older sibling's face.

The quiet moments between feedings.

The overwhelming love that filled the room.

Those moments deserve to be remembered just as much as the tiny fingers and sleepy smiles.

Because one day, those family photographs won't just remind you what your baby looked like.

They'll remind you how it felt to love them from the very beginning.

If you're expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in Asheville, Black Mountain, or the surrounding Western North Carolina area, I'd be honored to help you preserve this unforgettable chapter. Whether you choose a studio newborn session or an in-home lifestyle session, family portraits will always be an important part of telling your story.
